little asia

exterior look of the resto
One good place that serves very good asian cuisine is at Little Asia. I’ve been hearing about the tasty dishes they serve from friends and relatives and I have read about the numerous awards this restaurant have received. Little asia serves asian food mixtures of japanese, chinese, vietnamese, korean, thai etc. So armed with our digital camera we visited Little Asia at Tomas Morato for lunch to check what they have to offer.
So far, parking during lunch time was easy, dinner could have been a different story but I notice they offer valet parking service so i’m sure looking for a place to park your car will not be an issue even during dinner time.

interior
Upon entry you will be greeted by their staff. There are a couple of seats at the waiting area where you can check the menu and get your orders taken while they are preparing your seats. Their walls are uniquely designed with paintings painted on the wall. You can also easily notice the reddish color of the wall as the color red is an appetite stimulant. They have separate areas for smoking and non-smoking as well.

japanese tofu steak
To start off, we ordered Japanese Tofu Steak, pan fried tofu with shredded chicken, mushrooms and kuchay priced at 195. The tofu was very soft in the inside and no effort is needed to chew on eat. I personally love to eat tofu which could be one of the reasons why I enjoyed this dish. The mushrooms are very tasty and the sauce is light soy sauce.

yang chow fried rice
Yang chow fried rice had been my all time favorite. Ingredients include pork asado, shrimps, leeks, lettuce, carrots, green peas and eggs price at P225.00 good enough for 3-4 people. This dish is very tasty and with the load of the ingredients, you can eat the fried rice alone with no viand.

boneless tilapia in honey mayo sauce
One of the bestsellers at Little Asia is the Boneless Tilapia in Honey Mayo Sauce. It is 2 pieces Fried tilapia fillets, sauteed onions and garlic with honey mayonnaise dressing price at P215.00. It has a crunchy outer layer and soft tilapia meat inside, the honey mayo sauce is very tasty. This dish is worth trying!

Cantonese Prawns
For seafood, we tried the Cantonese Prawns. Sauteed prawns with melted cheese and cream sauce price at P355.00. The presentation is very simple yet the taste was fantastic. You can tell that the prawns are fresh through its color and taste. The prawn meat does not stick on its shell and the sauce is very tasty. Its a bit pricey for a few pieces of prawn but it is worth its value.
Some of the dishes we have tried at little asia that is Highly recommended are Korean Beef Stew, Chicken Teriyaki, Vietnamese Chicken with orange and honey, Eggplant with minced pork, Minced Chicken with Lettuce Cups and Gyoza.

little asia's bottomless iced tea
Of course, one way to enjoy good food is to complement it with a cold drink. Try Little Asia’s bottomless iced tea. They also serve fruit shakes like mango, green mango, watermelon, melon and buco.
Overall our experience at Little Asia is very good. We give the food and service 5/5 and 4/5 for the ambiance. I’m sure we will again visit Little Asia for another tasty experience.

chilis
Posted on January 21st, 2010 1 commentIf you like western food with huge servings, chilis is one place you should try. From fries, to tacos, to salads, to burgers, to ribs and to steaks you will definitely enjoy stuffing yourself. My first impression of chilis is that they serve spicy food, but don’t let their logo turn you down if you dont like spicy food, you can try to order something less spicy or non-spicy at all. Chili’s offer mexican-american food.
We visited chili’s branch in Tomas Morato. Before you get seated, they have a waiting area while they are preparing the vacant tables. Their staff are very friendly and courteous, and you can start looking at the menu while you are in the waiting area. Inside the restaurant, you will feel the homey ambiance. The place is very well lighted, aircon is not too cold. There are also memorabilia hanged on the walls and on the ceiling, with cable tv shows running on the screens inside the restaurant, you can feel comfortable the moment you get seated. No problem for non-smokers since they have a separate smoking and non smoking area.
One of my favorite appetizers in chili’s is the refillable tostada chips and salsa. The serving of this dish is overwhelming. You will love the taste of the salsa which is a bit on the spicy side made from tomato and chili. The tostada chips are very crispy. This is perfect for sharing since it is completely refillable. But just to warn you, this can bloat you easily and preventing you to eat the other dishes you ordered. Personally, I just have a hard time restraining myself to eat this because I really love the salsa. This is Priced at P310.00 . Great Appetizer and Best for Sharing!
This is the kids version of Chicken Crispers and Fries. I ordered this for my son since he loves to eat fries. Priced at P160.00 . It comes with a refillable soda, iced tea or lemonade. Well the fries is crispy, but nothing so special about it, it taste like ordinary fries from known fastfood and restaurants. The chicken is coated with some breading, taste is relatively ok, texture is a bit soft inspite of being deep fried. This dish is more of the greasy side.
One of my favorites is the Half Rack Baby Back Ribs. Priced at P550.00. This dish is served with your choice of sidings. Some of the choices are corn on a cob, plain rice, chilis rice, mashed potato and french fries. The chilis rice is like java rice, it is tasty but the texture of the rice is a bit hard. As for the ribs, the meat is tender, easily loose from the bones, the barbecue sauce was even and the meat is very tasty. It is best consumed when served hot. This is highly recommended for ribs lovers. Full slab Price at P840.00
Chili’s also serve different types of pasta, including white sauce. Here is the Shrimp Alfredo. Priced at P555.00 . Penne pasta cooked al-dente, on rich cream sauce with lots of shrimp in it, sprinkled with chili powder and served with a piece of bread. I really liked this dish, you can taste the cream sauce with a little hint of spice because of the chili powder, not too spicy though. And the shrimp is really tasty. The serving size is just right for what you pay for. And since its cream sauce, this is another dish that can bloat you easily. This dish is Highly Recommended.
Chili’s offer bottomless soda, iced tea, lemonade and margaritas. They also have a wide selection of desserts, perfect to complement their tasty dishes.
Overall I give 5/5 for ambiance. 4/5 for food taste and 5/5 for service. Even though it is a bit pricey, you will surely enjoy your visit at Chili’s for the food and friendly service. They also offer party packages for all occasion.

choi garden

choi garden
Choi Garden, a very prestige and well-known chinese resto in the heart of Annapolis, San Juan. We were fortunate that they could still accommodate us on a Saturday night. We were awed with the number of avid customers of this resto. It was a loooong line! Some waited for hours just to dine here. It was unbelievable! Adults, kids, some even elderly patiently waited for their chance to dine. whew! We were escorted by their friendly crew to the seats reserved for us. The interior of the resto was amazing! They displayed some china artifacts which surely has a history on its own, what do they represent. We were glad that we were seated at a comfortable couch. Once seated we were given their menu booklet and the grumble of our hungry stomach begins.

yang chow rice
Yang Chow Rice, a very well-known dish in every chinese resto. This has been a staple in every chinese resto as i have noticed. It has been an all time favorite and one of the bestsellers. At the price of P200.00, you almost has your own viand together with your rice. Consists of shrimp, sliced pork asado, sliced cabbage and sliced scrambled egg. It was delectable and no one will go wrong with Yang Chow Rice. A rating of 5/5 for this dish.

stir fry beef hofan
Stif fry beef hofan, a very appetizing noodle dish. Imagine lasagna pasta sliced into 3, you’ll get hofan noodle. Wider version of noodles but thin version of lasagna pasta. The pasta was gummy, and good together with stir fry beef with a sweet and salty taste at the price of P220.00. A rating of 4/5 for this dish.

sweet and sour fish fillet
Sweet and sour fish fillet, boneless fish fillet breaded and deep fried with sweet and sour sauce. The blending of the sauce was perfect! And the texture of the fish was far from better it was the best! For the price of P280.00 you’ll surely forget your name with this dish. A rating of 5/5.

mapo beancurd
Mapo Beancurd, stir-fry minced pork with tofu, caution dish is quite spicy. You’ll realize the spiciness of this dish if you have eaten the fresh chopped red pepper. Although i don’t like spicy food, i can say i have given this a two thumbs up among other mapo beancurd that i have tasted. At the price of P220.00. A rating of 5/5 for this dish.

salt and pepper spareribs
Salt and Pepper Spareribs, i was excited to taste the all-time favorite viand but was disappointed when i can’t even separate the meat from the bone. It was spiced very well, taste ok but the meat was hard to chew, inspite that it doesn’t have much pork fat compared with other spareribs that we have tasted. A rating of 3/5 for this dish.

green mango shake
Green Mango Shake, what’s a meal without a drink? Taste just right not too sour nor too sweet for my taste. A rating of 5/5 for this drink.

Ripe Mango Shake
Ripe Mango Shake, this was too sweet for me. I feel like my head will pop after drinking this, as if they have put 4 tablespoon of sugar/syrup. To my dismay, 3/5 for this drink.

apple shake
Apple Shake, they pleased me with this drink. I feel like i’m a kid after sipping this drink. It was just like the way i wanted. No too sweet and it was truly an apple shake very refreshing. A rating of 5/5 for this drink.

carrot apple shake
Carrot Apple Shake, who would have thought they would entertatin our request for my kid. My son loves to drink carrot and a combination of fruit and we were very delighted when they accommodate our request, even if it’s not listed on their menu. They go beyond their service and not only that their carrot apple shake was perfect! You could distinguish if it was fresh or they used canned drink to blend. A rating of 5/5 for this drink.
Overall I give Choi Garden a rating of 4/5 for their service, presentation and food. It was a great experienced. Now i understand why people have all the patience to wait for hours just to dine here.

cibo

cibo Trinoma Mall
Another great place for pasta and dessert is Cibo. Recently we visited cibo at Trinoma Mall in Quezon City. They manage to improve the interior this time, they placed couch on the side and they have a satellite resto inside the mall proper as well. However the food you order at the satellite resto will be delivered from the main resto. The inside of the resto is very well lighted, cozy, and the temperature is just perfect, fit for a wonderful date. Sitted on a comfortable couch, I can’t wait to grab a menu to place my order.

spinaci zola
For appetizer, we ordered Spinaci zola: spinach, gorgonzola in foccacia bread. Price: P218.00 Wow, the spinach dip is very very good! It taste a little sour, a bit like sourcream. And the foccacia bread is freshly prepared, crunchy outside and soft in the inside. My 2 year old son loves it. I give this dish a 5/5.

linguine alla ghiotta
For the main course, we ordered Linguine alla ghiotta, it has mushrooms, slab of bacon in cream sauce. Price for single serve P298.00, for sharing P520.00. This dish is the counterpart of carbonara for other restaurants that offer pasta. However, the cream for alla ghiotta is a bit lighter than the typical carbonara. Just a suggestion, if you like a thicker sauce, you might want to ask for some extra fresh parmesan cheese. This dish is served with a piece of foccacia bread. Another 5/5 for this dish.

farfalle alla veneziana
Another pasta dish is the Farfalle alla veneziana. Its a bowtie pasta with sauteed seafood in cream sauce with parsley. Price if single serve P258.00, for sharing P455.00. This dish is a bit similar to alla ghiotta, however seafood is the main ingredient. Just a suggestion, request to use fettucine or linguine for the pasta instead of the bowtie because the bowtie pasta does not absorb the cream sauce which make it dry to the taste. I give this dish 3/5.

rigatoni all alfonso
Rigatoni all alfonso has shrimps, chives, stewed tomatoes, cream and chili peppers. P325 for single serve and P573 for sharing. It is creamy and the pasta is really al dente! You can’t wait to taste it’s every bite. At first, I thought that the combination of stewed tomatoes and cream will make it taste like baked ziti, but then it’s all a different story. I give this 5/5.

penne al telefono
I have read a lot of recommendations of this menu, that’s why I really can’t leave Cibo without tasting the most recommended dish. Penne Al Telefono cooked with stewed tomatoes, mozzarella, white cheese, basil and cream P315 for single serve and P550 for sharing. This is truly a winner among all others in my opinion. I have never tasted a pasta with a simple recipe without even seafood nor meat but truly tasted pasta cooked by chefs! I can taste every ingredients of this dish and I can say there’s no scrimping here! I give this 5/5.

praga
Praga, their version of pizza with mozzarella, smoked cooked ham and mushrooms at the price of P353.00. I don’t like this that much, I find the dough hard for me to chew it. Wasn’t able to taste the topping used, the dough seems overpowering the taste of the toppings. I give this 3/5.
R
torta di ricotta
For dessert, we had Torta di ricotta, salsa di caramello. Its a cheesecake with caramelized glaze Price is P168.00. You can taste the richness of the cheesecake. The cake is very soft, and crunchy outside. This is different from any other cheesecake shop, for this crumbles instead of sticks to the utensils used. I give this dish a 4/5.

cafe mocca freddo
And of course, whats a good meal without an ice cold drink. I ordered a Caffe mocca freddo it’s an iced chocolate drink Price at P98.00, if decaf P108.00. It tastes a lot like Mocha Frappucino of a very well known coffee shop, minus the sweetness. Yeah believe it or not, it’s an iced chocolate drink but is not too sweet. I will surely order this again if I get a chance to visit cibo next time around. Two thumbs up! 5/5

te freddo with mint syrup
My wife had a Te freddo with mint syrup Price at P80.00. This is a mint iced tea. I got a chance to taste this and wow! it is like the aftermath of eating a mint candy, or should I say just finished brushing my teeth. You should try this as well. 5/5 for the taste and presentation.

uvanera
Uvanera, red grape fruit shake price at P110.00. Never tasted grape fruit shake this good! Not that sweet and so refreshing. Fruit shake is highly recommended in this restaurant for they never scrimp on the ingredients used. I give this 5/5.

pompelmo
Pompelmo, pomelo shake price at P110.00. I was expecting this to tastes like grapefruit when it comes to bitterness and sourness but then it surprised me to know it was not that bitter! There’s a hint of sourness alright but sweetness dominates the tastes so why worry to sip and sip? It is pomelo fruit shake and yet i’m confused why it’s tasted like not pomelo. Confusing right? Might as well give it a try when you visit this resto. I give this 5/5.

avocado shake
Finally I ordered a glass of Avocado shake for my son. He wont stop drinking it so I was curious how it tastes like. I tried some of it, and it’s a rich fruit shake, not like the fruit shake offered by other restaurants which is full of ice and sugar, this one is rich in avocado, just not recommended for those with cholesterol problems. another 5/5.
Overall, I give Cibo a 4/5 for the ambiance, food and serving size. The price is a bit pricey, but in my opinion it compensates the quality of the food they offer.

Tokyo-tokyo
Posted on June 7th, 2009 2 comments
Japanese food are one of my favorites. Cooked japanese food that is. This time lets try Tokyo-tokyo. For me, I can classify tokyo tokyo as semi fastfood and semi restaurant. Fastfood maybe because of the way you order the food as well as the price when compared to huge japanese restaurants, and restaurant for the quality of the food they offer. Tokyo tokyo is famous for their eat all you rice promo, as long as you can still take it, the rice will keep on coming.

tonkatsu
One of the all time favorites of tokyo tokyo is the tonkatsu. The tonkatsu is a breaded deep fried porkchop served with rice and stir fried vegetables. This dish is a bit greasy but is really yummy and crispy. I’m sure kids of all ages will love it, but not recommended for elderly people. The serving size of the porkchop is just average for its price.

beef teriyaki
Another one of my favorites at tokyo tokyo is the beef teriyaki. The beef is sliced very thinly and is cooked just right. Sprinkled with sesame seed. The only downside of this dish is that sometimes the served beef is more of the fatty side. But if you will be considering the taste, i’ll give it 5/5. You will keep asking for more rice. This is also served with rice and stir fried vegetables. Serving size is also average for its price.
If you would like to try this dish or other tokyo tokyo dish, you can avail for the sumo meal. The sumo meal is a package good for 2 people. It also includes 2 red ice tea, which can save you a few bucks.

chicken ninja wraps
Another best seller of tokyo tokyo is the Ninja Wraps. It comes in chicken or beef teriyaki. The ninja wrap is composed of Pita bread, chicken or beef pieces, teriyaki sauce and cabbage slices, it is wrapped like shawarma, this usually takes 15 minutes waiting time to prepare, but once this is served, it is worth the wait.
- red iced tea

And part of every good meal is an ice cold drink. At tokyo tokyo, you will surely love the taste of the Red Iced Tea. Taste the best when served very cold. I just hope that they will offer this bottomless in the future.
Overall I give tokyo tokyo a 4/5 for ambiance. 4/5 for food taste. and 5/5 for the price.

Las Paellas Cafe
Posted on May 31st, 2009 No commentsHaving been invited to try Las Paellas Cafe, I agreed with no hesitation. I was intrigued as to how one Paella restaurant keep up with another, for I know how delicate it could be. With different ingredients to use, style to cook, it tastes even better and better. Now that’s a moutwatering Paella you could ever imagine. I was astonished as to how homey the ambiance was, such a comfortable seats, and how attentive their staffs were.
Since we were aware that it would take a long time to prepare Paella, we immediately ordered their specialty it was their bestseller, the Paella Negra, black paella (used ink sac to became black) with grilled squid topped with garlic flavored mayonnaise and cheese. It was delectable from start to finish. Rice cooked just right and the blending of taste of the ink sac used is just right. Served in sizzling type pan to retain the right temperature. Good for 2-3 persons already at a price of P395.00. I would say I rate this 5/5. Among with other paellas tasted this one is the best!

Paella Negra
Though paella itself doesn’t need much viand, we can’t resist not to taste Lengua Sevillana, tender ox-tongue stewed with mushrooms and olives in sherry wine sauce. The creaminess of the sauce makes you want to eat more and more rice. Ox-tongue used was no doubt juicy and truly tender, maybe there’s a factor that they put sherry wine to make it really juicy! At a price of P365.00 for sharing or you can have it at P270.00 for solo order. I say I give this 5/5 based on the comparison among other Lengua’s I have tasted.

Lengua Sevillana
Can’t resist to have their baby back ribs, smoked baby back grilled and glazed with their own barbeque sauce. This one is tender and you’ll easily noticed that there’s no scrimping of sauce while grilling. For the price of 345.00, it will be served with your choice of steamed rice or garlic rice and grilled vegetables. Again, I was satisfied with this as to how it was prepared, presented and tasted. I give this 5/5.

Baby Back Ribs
What is a meal without dessert? We’ve had their ever famous Canonego, light and delectable meringue dessert. It was fluffy alright, of course it is meringue. It’s as if i’m eating the foam of the beaten egg. I didn’t feel or let we say tasted this dessert that much for it will only stays on your tongue in a mere second. It has a foamy texture though it’s not that sweet, at the price of 75.00. I’d say I’ll give this 3/5.

Canonego
What’s dessert without a chocolate? We’ve also had Chocolate Caramel Cake, chocolate cake with caramel frosting. It was moist but since it’s chocolate it’s so sweet to my taste. At P115.00, if you have a sweet tooth this is maybe for you. I give this 3/5.

Chocolate Caramel Cake
Their iced tea is bottomless and not the typical one, they have this version it’s as if they put a hint of Sanria into it. It was ok alright but there’s an aftertaste of bitterness. I give this 3/5.

iced tea
All in all my Las Paellas experienced has been 4/5. Ambiance 5/5, speed of service 4/5 and the food is 4/5.

superbowl of china

SuperBowl of China
Chinese food anyone? I myself is a fan of chinese food. I never get tired of eating chinese food.
I’ve been to Superbowl of china a couple of times already. For around 3 to 4 times i’ve visited superbowl, I usually start by waiting in queue to get a table, due to the number of guest they have that time. But you won’t go hungry while waiting since they will offer you prawn crackers in wooden bowls, which is refillable by the way.
I like the western atmosphere of the restaurant. You won’t feel that you are in a typical chinese restaurant at Superbowl. It is very well lighted and the height of the table is just right.

The price of the food at SuperBowl ranges from as low as P60 for dessert to around P390 for the main dish. They serve 100% authentic chinese food. From soups, congee, dimsum, noodle dishes, main dishes, roasting to fried rice, rice toppings combo meals to chinese desserts.

roasting combi platter
This is how the roasting combi platter looks like. The BBQ pork asado, century egg and jellyfish is my favorite in this dish. In chinese this is called “ding pua” or cold cuts. Price is a bit high at P390 but still cheaper than the typical chinese resto.
Here are some tips on what to order if you visit superbowl of china. For rice, I would recommend Yang Chow Fried Rice. The rice itself is like a viand on its own, it has chopped vegetables and asado roasting in it and is enough for 2-3 people. Only at the price of P195.
While for Main dish, i would recommend Crispy Mandarin Chicken.

Crispy Mandarin Chicken
At P275 the skin of the chicken is really very crispy indeed. Some of the recommended dishes are Lemon Chicken - P250, Lechon Macau, Honey- Glazed Pork Ribs - P285, Beef Broccolli - P295, Fish Fillet in Tausi Sauce - P260, and my all time favorite Mapo Tofu - P190 which is served a little spicy.

Lechon Macau
As for dessert, you should try Mango Sago - P80 and peanut butchi - P60.
Overall I give the food 4/5 and 4/5 for the ambience and cleanliness. For the speed of the service, i’ll give it another 4/5.
