    spiral

It had been an eventful day for us, for we had the privilege to dine at the most sought out buffet in Manila at the Spiral by Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila located at CCP Complex Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.

    spiral staircase

Upon entrance we were enthralled by the spiral staircase paired with the spiral steel design, underneath that spiral steel design was a mini fountain that gave the interior of the dining area a different ambiance.  It’s as if serenity is what the ambiance entails.

    ambiance

    ambiance

A very serene place to dine, space is not an issue, for the dining area was huge and spacious.  Your choice where will you be seated as long as you make an early reservation or if the area is available.  May it be by the window where al fresco area, children’s play area and swimming pool are viewable, or you may opt to be near their different cuisines section such as the Korean cuisine wherein round tables were available, or by the Japanese cuisine section, or beside the mini-fountain at the center of the dining area.

    seafood section

    seafood section

other side of the seafood section

    other side of seafood section

Their seafood section has shrimp, oysters, mussels and crabs all unlimited.  I was amazed as how each seafood were presented.  You can eat it cold or you can request for it to be baked or cooked with your choice of garnish.  I had my shrimps sauteed in butter and garlic, and ask them to fry the crab.  Shrimps were still delectable in it’s form even I have it sauteed again, but the crabs were disappointing.  I was excited that I can eat only the crab pincer but was disappointed that the meat became too dry.

    wine and cheese section

    wine and cheese section

Start of what they call the Mediterranean Cuisine Section.  Choices of different wine, cheese, dip and different whole wheat biscuits were available in this section.

    salad section

    salad section

Part of Mediterranean Cuisine Section are different approach to  salad.  You can have it the create-your-own-salad, or you can choose among the prepared one such as the combination of  Pomelo Orange Cranberries Salad, i find the combination bitter to my taste.  Their  Shrimp Orange Salad is a great tasting combination, for shrimp used was fresh and the orange was sweet and juicy, and there’s a  whole lot more of choices that I haven’t got the chance to take note of.

    bread section

    bread section

Another part of the Mediterranean Cuisine Section was the different kinds of bread, pizza, and pasta.  You can ask their chef to cook you a pasta according to your preference of ingredients and sauce to use.  It was exciting but warn you carbo load can bloat you immediately.  I have tasted their cheese pizza it was delectable.  I thought it would taste bland for theirs was thin crust, but to my amazement it was tasty and flavorful.

    mediterranean food section

    mediterranean food section

Another part of the Mediterranean Cuisine Section was the paella,  and chicken shawarma station.  Paella was okay but was not something that you would crave for again, while Chicken Shawarma was something!  I thought it will be just a typical taste of shawarma, but it was not!  Chicken was very tasty it has been marinated way before it was placed at the shawarma machine.

    cold japanese section

    cold japanese

    cold japanese section

    cold japanese

In Spiral, their Cold Japanese was part of the Mediterranean Section.  I noticed number of guests were in line for this section, and surprisingly, Chefs assigned managed this station to be well-stocked.

    japanese food section

    japanese food section

Now, their Hot Japanese Cuisine Section was separated from the Cold Japanese for the latter was part of the Mediterranean Cuisine Section.   This section carried the ever-famous Prawn Tempura, Yakisoba, Miso Soup, Lapu-lapu fillet on a sticky rice, mini scallops and a whole lot more!  It was really too many dishes to mention.  I like the freshness of every dishes served.

    indian cuisine section

    indian cuisine section

    international cuisine section

    international cuisine section

International Cuisine Section was the home for their Prime Ribs, and Roasted Chicken that’s really worth visiting.

    chinese food section

    chinese cuisine section

Chinese Cuisine Section, where the famous mango-sago dessert was a hit! It was refreshing!  Dimsum, Noodles, Beef, Fish all cooked in chinese style was superb.

    korean food section

    korean cuisine section

Their Korean Cuisine Section was where the Peking Duck stationed.  It was juicy but the skin of the Peking Duck was not crunchy as it should be anymore.

    pastries and sweets

    pastries and sweets

They’ve got tons and tons of pastries and sweets to name a few were Sugar-free strawberry panna cotta, sugar-free chocolate panna cotta, creme brulee, mocha brulee and other pastries that one couldn’t imagine that they can eat and taste it here all in Spiral.

    fruit, chocolate fountain

    fruit, chocolate fountain

Some fruit in season were available such as Dragon Fruit, Mangosteen, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Mango, Star Apple and Orange.   White and Dark Chocolate Fountain were also available where some skewered fruit and marshmallows were already prepared.

    crepes, churros, halo-halo

    crepes, churros, cookies, halo-halo

Crepes with your choice of fruit and toppings , Baked Cookies, Churros, and Halo-halo were all in these section.  I can vouch for the crepes that it was good but was only disappointed as how it was prepared.  It was not as perfect as I have expected.  Baked cookies were on a bland side, Churros as expected was oily but delectable partnered with melted chocolate.   Halo-halo was still a hit eversince I have visited Spiral up until now.

    ice cream

    ice cream

What’s a dessert without Ice Cream in tow?  Their Pistachos was superb! And has been the most favorite of the guests.  You can have as many scoops as you want with your choice of toppings of cereal, choco chips, and/or grated almonds.

For the price of P1927.00 net of tax and service charge per head,  if you don’t have their Accor Advantage Plus card or for the price of P1927.00 for two persons if with mentioned membership card.  There was a complimentary coffee and tea for the said amount.

All in all it was a very hearty meal.  I give 5/5 for the ambiance, 4/5 for the service, 4/5 for the price and 5/5 for the food.

    french baker exterior

French Baker at Landmark Supermarket in Trinoma Mall.  Who wouldn’t be attracted with the ambiance this branch has to offer,  cozy ambiance, comfortable couch seats, and with dim-orange lighting.  Imagining the notion of dining there with my family makes me smile.  Good thing hubby is in the mood to dine at French Baker then, and so the experienced began.  We were seated on a very comfortable couch, and then waited for the server to came to get our order.  After choosing the only available dish they has to offer then, we chose the fourth dish before the server told us that that is the only available for rice meal for that night.  We were disappointed, it was only 6pm on a Monday night and they don’t have any choices to offer.

    soup on a bread bowl

    soup on a bread bowl

Soup on a bread bowl (soup of the day: chicken and corn) served in hollowed-out crusty bread.   This is the comfort food i can say for that night.  The taste of the soup is just right not salty nor bland and the bread used is really freshly baked, it was soft and moist.  At the price of P105.00.  A rating of 4/5.

    cheezee mac

    cheezee mac

Cheezee Mac is a cheesy macaroni tossed in Mornay sauce, served with your choice of grilled foccacia or garlic bread.   I find their serving very small for the price of P158.00, but it was good.  The macaroni and cheese blends with the ham topping.  But find the garlic bread not freshly baked for it was hard for me to chew, and it was too oily for my taste.  A rating of 3/5 for this dish.

korean beef barbecue in a casserole

    beef burgundy in casserole

bread and sidedish of buttered corn and carrots

bread and sidedish of buttered corn and carrots

The French Baker’s version of boeuf bourgignon, a robust beef stew cooked in red wine sauce.  In my opinion,  What’s a beef stew without rice?  We originally ordered this dish with rice, but after paying our orders we were informed that they don’t have any available rice to served, and since we have paid for this dish  already we don’t have any choice but to accept the alternative they offer, to serve it with roll/bread instead.  It was hard for me to enjoy this dish without rice, for the sauce of the beef stew is quite salty if with roll/bread.  You can instantly distinguished the taste of the wine used in this dish for it’s kinda sour to my taste.  The beef used was juicy and soft.  At the price at P230.00.  A rating of 2/5 for this dish.

    french-baker-007

Iced mocca, intended with ice as the name implies.  Unfortunately for us, there’s no ice available.  Having ice mocca without ice was no fun! It was too sweet and it’s as if you’re drinking an instant malt drink that you can easily prepare at home.  At the price of P47.00.  A rating of 2/5 for this drink.

    coffee

    coffee

Brewed coffee, it was not hot when served, milk given as a creamer was truly creamy at the price of P62.00.   A rating of 1/5 for this drink.

Based on my experienced at this particular branch, after our dining experience my Overall rating for French Baker, Landmark Trinoma Mall branch is 2/5.   Some of their branches may be worth a visit, surely not all of them has the same situation.

    holy cow

    holy cow

We were attracted by the menu gallery displayed outside the store, and so we decided to have a Holy Cow! experienced.   We were guided to our preferred seats and were given a menu.  They have wooden seats and couch were also available.  Trayliners and utensils were immediately provided but no one’s prepared to get our orders.  To our dismayed, crews were not that attentive to your needs.

    county mushroom soup

    county mushroom soup

For starters, we had County Mushroom Soup, mushroom soup with bread sticks price price at P85.00.  A different version of mushroom soup, but to our dismayed it was a bit salty and seems like they put soysauce to it.  It’s  not that creamy and not that hot for a soup.   I give this 2/5.

    creamy clam chowder

    creamy clam chowder

Creamy Clam Chowder, creamy soup with clams and parmesan bread sticks price price at P75.00.  Now this is creamy and yes you can truly taste the clams in this soup.  Truly a clam chowder alright.  I give this 5/5.

    cowboy combo platter

    cowboy combo platter

Cowboy Combo Platter, breaded chicken tenders, onion ring and barbeque flavored fries price at P295.00.  I can say we were awed when this dish was served on our table, huge serving!  Onion rings has lots of breading good for me for i like it that way, while chicken tenders more on chicken skin than chicken meat, fries were salted and tasted good.  I give this 4/5.

    superb creamy cheese carbonara

    superb creamy cheese carbonara

Superb creamy cheese carbonara solo price at P145.00, regular price at P265.00.  I love this dish! It is creamy and the bacon were crunchy good together, and they don’t scrimp on cheese!  The name of the dish itself speaks for itself Superb!  I give this 5/5.

    lonestar grilled porkchops

    lonestar grilled porkchops

Lonestar Grilled Porkchop served with roasted apple gravy price at P220.00.  Their porkchop were juicy, and more lean meat were served.  I like porkchop with typical gravy taste than with apple gravy.  Steamed vegetables were crunchy and cooked just right.  I give this 3/5.

    running iron chicken barbeque

    running iron chicken barbeque

Running Iron Chicken Barbeque, chicken quarter served with sweet hickory barbeque sauce price at P220.00.  Can’t wait to chow down this dish.  Their chicken barbeque were juicy but find it more sour taste than sweetness too much marination?  Corn on the cob were crunchy which i find it perfect!  The rice is a bit dry though.  I give this 4/5.

    mashed potatoes

    mashed potatoes

Mashed Potatoes price at P45.00.  Their version of mashed potatoes were not fully mashed and not creamy.  I find it dry with chunks of potatoes in every spoonful bite.  I give this 3/5.

    citrus black tea

    citrus black tea

Citrus Black Tea,  ceylon tea with citrus fruit extract price at P65.00.  A different version of ice tea, taste like brewing a tea then add some ice voila! citrus black tea!   I give this 4/5.

    white grape tea

    white grape tea

White Grape Tea, white tea with grape juice and fresh grapes price at P65.00.  You’ll definitely taste the hint of grape with ice tea it was refreshing but sweet.  I give this 4/5.

Overall, I give Holy Cow! Steak Ranch and American Grill a 3/5 for the service, food and ambience.

Another great place to have a good western meal is TGI Fridays.  One thing I really appreciate when I visit TGI Fridays are the antique memorabilia hanged on the walls, it makes you feel like your in another place and another time. The restaurant is kid friendly as they provide color and coloring pages to keep the kids busy. Lamps are used to light each table, and the aircon is cold enough to keep the restaurant cool. There are TV screens on different sections of the restaurant to keep you entertained while having your meal.

    cajun shrimp and chicken pasta

For pasta lovers, the Cajun shrimp and chicken pasta is a must try dish at TGI fridays.  Fettuccine pasta is used in thick creamy spicy alfredo sauce, with red bell pepper in cajun butter and parmesan cheese. The pasta noodle is cooked al dente with lots of chicken and shrimp pieces in it. The dish is very tasty, serving size is just about average for the price. Price at P535.00.  However, eating this pasta dish on your own will bloat you easily, this is just perfect for sharing. I give this dish a 5/5.

baby back ribs with barbeque sauce

baby back ribs with barbeque sauce

Another best seller from  TGI Fridays is the Baby back ribs.  Served with barbeque sauce and french fries. The meat is very tender and you do not need much effort to separate the meat from the bone.   Indeed, one of the best ribs i’ve tasted. The fries has too much salt though but its not much on an issue.  Taste for this dish is very good but it is a bit pricey for its category. Price if half slab P595.00, full slab P990.00.

    apple shake

    apple shake

For the drink, we had Apple shake price at P150.00. Rich apple shake served really cold, perfect for kids, its healthy and refreshing.

    strawberry iced tea

    strawberry iced tea

We also ordered Strawberry iced tea price atP125.00, you should try this iced tea. Best if served with lots and lots of ice. Its like strawberry candy in liquid form. And the taste is not too sweet at all.

Overall I give TGI fridays a 5/5.  Price is a bit high but good food is what you get.

    cafe breton

Craving for crepes?  Cafe Breton is the place.  May it be as your main meal or as your dessert you can count on them.  The ambience is so serene for us that’s why we were in awe upon entering the resto.  Staff immediately escorted us into our seats, where candle lights on each tables, with a mini vase and a fresh flower.  Staffs here were very friendly, neat and quick to everyone’s needs as i have noticed.

crepe with veal sausage, mushroom and bechamel sauce

crepe with veal sausage, mushroom and bechamel sauce

For our main course, we had Crepe with veal sausage, mushroom and bechamel sauce price at P177.50.  This dish is a winner for me, since i love white sauce, bechamel sauce is the substitute for that, i chose veal sausage for it is a lighter version of all sausages for me so i could still accommodate dessert.  Veal sausage is lighter in taste, than any other sausage that I know of.  Not that tasty that could eat up your taste palette and would devour the tastes of all the ingredients present in your crepe.  Mushroom and bechamel sauce are good together with veal sausage.  I give this dish a rating of 4/5.

crepe with ham, mushroom, and bechamel sauce

crepe with ham, mushroom, and bechamel sauce

Then another main course, Crepe with ham, mushroom and bechamel sauce price at P152.50.  Noticed that one would opt to order a lighter main dish rather than being bloated and leaving Cafe Breton without tasting their sweet crepes?  For you’ll miss a lot then.  Another lighter main course to choose from wherein safer for you to have some space for sweet crepes.  I give this dish a rating of 4/5.

    galette americain

    galette americain

Galette americain consists of beef patty, sunny side-up egg, tomato provencal, mushrooms and mushroom sauce at P221.50.  Instead of Crepe, I ordered galette to taste their wheat version.  I find it alright but I like crepe more.  The tomato provencal evens out the taste of the meat and eggs present in this dish, most especially having a mushroom sauce, another creamy version of sauce that they offers.  I give this dish a rating of 3/5.

    crepe with strawberries and cream

    crepe with strawberries and cream

For Dessert, Crepe with strawberries and cream, strawberries preserve in syrup with cream, ice cream topped with whipped cream at P217.25.  I have a sweet tooth that night, but then was surprised that strawberries preserved were way too sweet for me,  most especially if you put chocolate syrup on top.  Too sweet for me.  a rating of 3/5.

    adam and eve

    adam and eve

Another round of dessert, Adam & Eve, stewed apples with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream at P195.00.  Sweet and sour taste of apples are perfect together with cinnamon powder… delicious!   Love their vanilla ice cream, also with a hint of cinnamon on top.  a rating of 5/5.

    mango crepe

    mango crepe

A create-your-own Mango Crepe without the chocolate syrup and without the cream.  Suited for those who crave a simple dessert crepe but afraid of too sweet.  This dessert is only a combination of crepe, sliced fresh mangoes, coffee ice cream on top and a dash of confectioner’s sugar price at P125.00.   A rating of 5/5 from me.

    banana split

    banana split

Banana Split, split banana with a scoop of chocolate, strawberry, vanilla ice cream, with walnuts, whipped cream, cherries and with a combination of chocolate and strawberry syrup.  A dessert suited for those who has sweet tooth I can say.   Price at P170.00.  A rating of 4/5.

    cafe liegeois

    cafe liegeois

Cafe Liegois, pronounced as leej-wah, a cold espresso with coffee ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce price at P120.00 if decaf P130.00.  This seems to be just like a cold coffee with coffee ice cream.  And it’s not that sweet to my taste.  A true winner for those who craves for a dessert.  A rating of 5/5 from me.

    sakae sushi exterior

    sakae sushi exterior

Another japanese restaurant for review. What makes japanese food so good to my taste bud is probably the mixture of the sweet and salty taste of the sauces. I always like eating at japanese restaurant but I only eat cooked food. This time we visited Sakae Sushi at SM Mall of Asia. The restaurant is very well lighted, aircon is cold, it has a clean surrounding and best of all a confortable couch to sit in. There is long conveyor beside the tables that distribute the freshly prepared sushi, you can just grab your favorite sushi or sashimi and put it on your table as they offer Eat all you can, you will then be charged depending on the color of the sushi plate on your table.

    japanese fried rice

    japanese fried rice

Usually the rice choices you have when dining at a japanese restaurant are Plain  japanese white rice or the japanese fried rice. The japanese fried rice is one of my favorites.   It has green peas, carrots, chicken pieces and egg in it. The rice alone without any viand is very tasty, however their serving of japanese rice is quite small for a single person.  For the price of P99.00 per bowl.

    tuna teriyaki

    salmon teriyaki

One of the most famous dish in a japanese restaurant is teriyaki. It can be chicken, beef or salmon teriyaki. With the sweet taste of the teriyaki sauce, it enhances the flavor of the salmon. The salmon fish is very tender. However I personally feel that it could be a lot better if there are onions cooked with it. 4/5 for the taste of this dish. The serving of salmon teriyaki is average for its price of P309.00.

    tofu steak

    tofu steak

One of my favorites, whether japanese or chinese food are tofu. Tofu are made from soyabeans made into square pieces sometimes, softer versions of tofu are place on plastic tubes, at the price of P249.00.  The taste of the tofu steak is delicious. I think they also include some teriyaki sauce in it. The dish contains mushrooms in it. 5/5 for the taste and 5/5 for the serving. but 3/5 for presentation.

    gyoza

    gyoza

Gyoza are meat dumplings that are pan fried. They are a little bit greasy but the taste is superb! It comes with a gyoza sauce, I think it is vinegar and soysauce mixed together. These are really good appetizers. 5/5 for taste, presentation and serving size.  At the price of P149.00.

Lastly, we had Chicken teriyaki. Another one of those Teriyaki family. This dish is very good. The chicken is soft and juicy. While the skin is a bit crispy. I suggest they include more teriyaki sauce in it. Serving size is 4/5 and 5/5 for presentation.  At the price of P189.00.

Gumbo, a taste of New Orleans as the slogan says.  Upon entering the restaurant you will notice a lot of memorabilia hanging on their walls.  Different states and it’s capital of United States were posted on dining tables as their names.  It was a cool concept.  We were escorted to our seats, which by the way is a comfortable couch.  Having that cool and comfortable ambience, suddenly I felt the baby back ribs craving.  Your order of bourbon-style ribs with two side dishes of your own choice, I chose mashed potatoes and corn.  Their version of baby back ribs is kinda sweet to my taste, I noticed a small part of lean meat for me to indulge more of the bones of the ribs itself, while the mashed potatoes are really yummy! It was creamy though I have noticed chunks of potatoes rather than purely mashed it’s still delicious.  You can choose sizes between petite P495.00 or grande P795.00.  I give this a rating of  3/5.

My choice of pasta then was Classic Spaghetti Carbonara.  Their version of carbonara is just ordinary, cream based pasta with their special herbs, crunchy bacon and parmesan cheese.  The taste was alright, and expected for a typical cream based dish.  I give this 4/5 rating.
