Cajun
Posted on June 2nd, 2009 7 commentsCajun, the name itself sounds like food served here are all hot and spicy. Ah-ah you got it wrong! Cajun is a family restaurant wherein they served kid-friendly dishes, and good for a family feast regardless what occasion it may be. The newly renovated ambiance of the restaurant is cozy with an orange-light setting. The interior of the place is cozy enough, not to mention that they have a generous number of couch for you to relax at while dining. Upon entering the restaurant, we were courteously greeted by the manager and the waiters. Just like any western style restaurant, they serve fries, onion rings, chicken fingers and the likes for appetizers. They also serve barbecue ribs and burgers for main dish.

full house sampler
Full House Sampler consist of onion sesame rings, stuffed cheese logs, black pepper calamari and chicken tenders served with dips of creamy mustard sauce, marinara sauce and espresso sauce. If you’re ready to devour a deep fried sampler this is it for you, I was ecstatic with their famous onion sesame rings which is typical for me, but their stuffed cheese logs were delectable it was cheesy and gooey, their version of calamari was seasoned well but quite hard for us to chew while their chicken tenders was perfect! You’ll never go wrong with a sampler as your appetizer, you’ll get to taste all different variation at the price of P340.00. A rating of 3/5 for this dish.

creole chicken spaghetti - single serving

creole chicken spaghetti-family serving
We ordered Creole Chicken Spaghetti, according to the cajun staff this is the best seller among the pasta they serve. Its a creamy white sauce pasta with chicken pieces, onions, bell pepper tomatoes and cheese. No, it does not taste like the average carbonara, the creole chicken spaghetti is above the average white sauce pasta. Indeed this is a very good pasta dish. A single order of this can bloat you easily. For the price of P185.00 for a regular serving and P350.00 for family serving. I give it 5/5 for taste and 4/5 for presentation.

tony's classic burger
Next we had a Tony’s classic burger. Its a double patty burger with lettuce serve with french fries. The burger patty itself was a little dry but the fries was really tasty and crispy. This would have been better if the patty was a little moist and probably served with cheese in it. For the price of P195.00 for a half-pound burger patty and P245.00 for a pound of beef patty. I give this 3/5 for taste and 4/5 for presentation.

supreme espresso ribs
Supreme Espresso Ribs with baked mash potatoes and mojos, their version of mojos was to use sweet potatoes, a different variation of using rootcrops. The ribs itself was juicy and tender and it was tasty alright but wasn’t able to taste the espresso that we were expecting from this dish but was satisfying! At the price of P310.00. A rating of 4/5 for this dish.
One other dish not in the picture that I can recommend is the Mustard Peppered Chicken. The mustard peppered chicken is one piece boneless chicken with mustard pepper sauce served with 2 sidings, 2 choices from saffron rice, french fries, hash brown, corn and carrot or corn in a cub. Another option is you can choose Pork Chop instead of chicken. This dish for me is a 5/5 for taste and 4/5 for presentation and 3/5 for the serving size. The Mustard peppered sauce is a creamy yellowish sauce with crushed pepper in it. Truly a very good tasting dish. at the price of P210.

Strawberry Iced Tea

green iced tea

Tony's special blend iced tea
Every good tasting dish needs to be complemented by a refreshing drink. Cajun offers bottomless iced tea. Either you choose the red one (strawberry) or the green one both iced tea is equally refreshing. At the price of P75.00 you can have it bottomless already. You can choose to have the green iced tea first then have the red iced tea later so you can check which one taste better for you. Or you may opt to try their Tony’s special blend iced tea,at the price of P75.00 per glass or P110.00 for a pitcher, sweeter than their strawberry iced tea, their secret ingredient for this beverage is vanilla…it is also refreshing and an out of the blue beverage that is worth to try!
Overall I give Cajun Family Restaurant a 4/5 my personal suggestion is for them to improve the serving size while maintaining the price. Budget for 2 people is around P300-P450.

I just visited Cajun Red Rock a few days ago and had a wonderful 3 hour lunch with my hubby, BFFs and Chef Tony himself.
I noticed in your article that food size was an issue for you… but I thought that the serving sizes were BIG!!! I guess I don’t eat as much as you, hehehehe… anyway, thanks for your review… I’m going back to try some of the other selections

Thanks for your comment Joyce.
The branch I visited is the Retiro branch, and I have to say the serving is really small compared to the pictures you’ve taken, not sure why but is it maybe because you are having the meal with the chef? =)
I just hope they improve it in time.

My hubby and I used to visit Cajun almost every week when they were still on Jupiter so we were psyched to find out they had recently re-opened in Megamall. We went last Friday. We were surprised that so much has changed. The servings were way too small, even for my 5-year old daughter. Their burger wasn’t good either. And they use regular cheese on their pizza, not mozzarella, which is weird because their prices are on the high end. When it was time to pay, they only accepted cash. With prices like that, they SHOULD accept credit card. Anyway, personally, it was a disappointing visit.
