cibo Trinoma Mall
Another great place for pasta and dessert is Cibo. Recently we visited cibo at Trinoma Mall in Quezon City. They manage to improve the interior this time, they placed couch on the side and they have a satellite resto inside the mall proper as well. However the food you order at the satellite resto will be delivered from the main resto. The inside of the resto is very well lighted, cozy, and the temperature is just perfect, fit for a wonderful date. Sitted on a comfortable couch, I can’t wait to grab a menu to place my order.

spinaci zola
For appetizer, we ordered Spinaci zola: spinach, gorgonzola in foccacia bread. Price: P218.00 Wow, the spinach dip is very very good! It taste a little sour, a bit like sourcream. And the foccacia bread is freshly prepared, crunchy outside and soft in the inside. My 2 year old son loves it. I give this dish a 5/5.

linguine alla ghiotta
For the main course, we ordered Linguine alla ghiotta, it has mushrooms, slab of bacon in cream sauce. Price for single serve P298.00, for sharing P520.00. This dish is the counterpart of carbonara for other restaurants that offer pasta. However, the cream for alla ghiotta is a bit lighter than the typical carbonara. Just a suggestion, if you like a thicker sauce, you might want to ask for some extra fresh parmesan cheese. This dish is served with a piece of foccacia bread. Another 5/5 for this dish.

farfalle alla veneziana
Another pasta dish is the Farfalle alla veneziana. Its a bowtie pasta with sauteed seafood in cream sauce with parsley. Price if single serve P258.00, for sharing P455.00. This dish is a bit similar to alla ghiotta, however seafood is the main ingredient. Just a suggestion, request to use fettucine or linguine for the pasta instead of the bowtie because the bowtie pasta does not absorb the cream sauce which make it dry to the taste. I give this dish 3/5.

rigatoni all alfonso
Rigatoni all alfonso has shrimps, chives, stewed tomatoes, cream and chili peppers. P325 for single serve and P573 for sharing. It is creamy and the pasta is really al dente! You can’t wait to taste it’s every bite. At first, I thought that the combination of stewed tomatoes and cream will make it taste like baked ziti, but then it’s all a different story. I give this 5/5.

penne al telefono
I have read a lot of recommendations of this menu, that’s why I really can’t leave Cibo without tasting the most recommended dish. Penne Al Telefono cooked with stewed tomatoes, mozzarella, white cheese, basil and cream P315 for single serve and P550 for sharing. This is truly a winner among all others in my opinion. I have never tasted a pasta with a simple recipe without even seafood nor meat but truly tasted pasta cooked by chefs! I can taste every ingredients of this dish and I can say there’s no scrimping here! I give this 5/5.

praga
Praga, their version of pizza with mozzarella, smoked cooked ham and mushrooms at the price of P353.00. I don’t like this that much, I find the dough hard for me to chew it. Wasn’t able to taste the topping used, the dough seems overpowering the taste of the toppings. I give this 3/5.
R
torta di ricotta
For dessert, we had Torta di ricotta, salsa di caramello. Its a cheesecake with caramelized glaze Price is P168.00. You can taste the richness of the cheesecake. The cake is very soft, and crunchy outside. This is different from any other cheesecake shop, for this crumbles instead of sticks to the utensils used. I give this dish a 4/5.

cafe mocca freddo
And of course, whats a good meal without an ice cold drink. I ordered a Caffe mocca freddo it’s an iced chocolate drink Price at P98.00, if decaf P108.00. It tastes a lot like Mocha Frappucino of a very well known coffee shop, minus the sweetness. Yeah believe it or not, it’s an iced chocolate drink but is not too sweet. I will surely order this again if I get a chance to visit cibo next time around. Two thumbs up! 5/5

te freddo with mint syrup
My wife had a Te freddo with mint syrup Price at P80.00. This is a mint iced tea. I got a chance to taste this and wow! it is like the aftermath of eating a mint candy, or should I say just finished brushing my teeth. You should try this as well. 5/5 for the taste and presentation.

uvanera
Uvanera, red grape fruit shake price at P110.00. Never tasted grape fruit shake this good! Not that sweet and so refreshing. Fruit shake is highly recommended in this restaurant for they never scrimp on the ingredients used. I give this 5/5.

pompelmo
Pompelmo, pomelo shake price at P110.00. I was expecting this to tastes like grapefruit when it comes to bitterness and sourness but then it surprised me to know it was not that bitter! There’s a hint of sourness alright but sweetness dominates the tastes so why worry to sip and sip? It is pomelo fruit shake and yet i’m confused why it’s tasted like not pomelo. Confusing right? Might as well give it a try when you visit this resto. I give this 5/5.

avocado shake
Finally I ordered a glass of Avocado shake for my son. He wont stop drinking it so I was curious how it tastes like. I tried some of it, and it’s a rich fruit shake, not like the fruit shake offered by other restaurants which is full of ice and sugar, this one is rich in avocado, just not recommended for those with cholesterol problems. another 5/5.
Overall, I give Cibo a 4/5 for the ambiance, food and serving size. The price is a bit pricey, but in my opinion it compensates the quality of the food they offer.

abe
At first, we were a bit hesistant to dine at Abe, for we thought this is a fine dining restaurant, which means equals to pricey food but then maybe we were impressed with the image they possessed. From outside of the restaurant, you could feel the prestige the restaurant delivers, tables with neatly lined utensils on top with a remarkable white linens, the furnitures used were on classy style, astonishing interiors, the paintings displayed, and the plants on every corner. But once you enter the restaurant, such a homey scent. Seems like we were transported in a time warp to early 80’s? If you will be dining as a group, reservation helps, for this has been a favorite resto for Filipino dish and it will be hard on your end to waste the time to wait. Since, we have reserved an hour before dinner we were lucky to still get in, just in time for dinner. Their staffs were attentive, and quickly guide us to a seat designated for us. We were informed as to what are their bestsellers and they even gave a suggestion that will suits our taste pallette.

green mango & bagoong salad
For appetizer we had, Green Mango and Bagoong Salad. It was the typical green mango taste i think they used the Pico breed of mango here for it was not too sour which is advantageous for us hungry crowd, bagoong or shrimp paste were sweet and cooked just right. It was price at P95.00 per serving.

sinigang of bangus belly with ripe guava
Sinigang of bangus belly with ripe guava. If you’re craving for a different kind of sinigang this one’s for you, but if you’re not that adventurous to try a different recipe for the all-time favorite sinigang soup, Think again! This sinigang taste more like guava than sinigang itself and has a thick consistency which is a bit weird to the crowd’s taste for it seems not good to pair it with rice. With a limited number of Bangus (milkfish), but with crunchy kangkong at the price of P395.00.

pastel de lengua
Pastel de Lengua, now this one was delectable! The ox tongue was sliced into chunks, were really soft and creamy, taste just right! While the pastel itself is a bit chewy and crunchy at P330.00 per serving. Serves 3-4 persons already.

- spicy sisig pampanga
Spicy sisig pampanga, since this was expected to be oily alright but I can’t seem to control myself to chow down this dish. It seems taste more like pork itself than the true content of a sisig. At P175.00 per serving.

- crispy pork adobo ni lola ising
Crispy pork adobo ni lola ising, we were astonished as to how small the serving was at the price of P385.00. Once tasted, you’ll surely know the answer. It was perfect among adobo i’ve tasted. It was really crispy and the adobo sauce on the sides were perfect! Not that salty nor sweet but, sadly it is oily.

regular ice tea
Regular ice tea, iced tea combined with orange juice. Refreshing! The supervisor offered us their special iced tea, which was iced tea with lemon grass combined with muscovado syrup. I give up instantly when he gave us a free taste of such drink it was too sweet for my taste.

sakae sushi
Posted on June 12th, 2009 2 comments
sakae sushi exterior
Another japanese restaurant for review. What makes japanese food so good to my taste bud is probably the mixture of the sweet and salty taste of the sauces. I always like eating at japanese restaurant but I only eat cooked food. This time we visited Sakae Sushi at SM Mall of Asia. The restaurant is very well lighted, aircon is cold, it has a clean surrounding and best of all a confortable couch to sit in. There is long conveyor beside the tables that distribute the freshly prepared sushi, you can just grab your favorite sushi or sashimi and put it on your table as they offer Eat all you can, you will then be charged depending on the color of the sushi plate on your table.

- japanese fried rice
Usually the rice choices you have when dining at a japanese restaurant are Plain japanese white rice or the japanese fried rice. The japanese fried rice is one of my favorites. It has green peas, carrots, chicken pieces and egg in it. The rice alone without any viand is very tasty, however their serving of japanese rice is quite small for a single person. For the price of P99.00 per bowl.

salmon teriyaki
One of the most famous dish in a japanese restaurant is teriyaki. It can be chicken, beef or salmon teriyaki. With the sweet taste of the teriyaki sauce, it enhances the flavor of the salmon. The salmon fish is very tender. However I personally feel that it could be a lot better if there are onions cooked with it. 4/5 for the taste of this dish. The serving of salmon teriyaki is average for its price of P309.00.

tofu steak
One of my favorites, whether japanese or chinese food are tofu. Tofu are made from soyabeans made into square pieces sometimes, softer versions of tofu are place on plastic tubes, at the price of P249.00. The taste of the tofu steak is delicious. I think they also include some teriyaki sauce in it. The dish contains mushrooms in it. 5/5 for the taste and 5/5 for the serving. but 3/5 for presentation.

gyoza
Gyoza are meat dumplings that are pan fried. They are a little bit greasy but the taste is superb! It comes with a gyoza sauce, I think it is vinegar and soysauce mixed together. These are really good appetizers. 5/5 for taste, presentation and serving size. At the price of P149.00.

chicken teriyaki
Lastly, we had Chicken teriyaki. Another one of those Teriyaki family. This dish is very good. The chicken is soft and juicy. While the skin is a bit crispy. I suggest they include more teriyaki sauce in it. Serving size is 4/5 and 5/5 for presentation. At the price of P189.00.

gumbo
Posted on June 9th, 2009 1 commentGumbo, a taste of New Orleans as the slogan says. Upon entering the restaurant you will notice a lot of memorabilia hanging on their walls. Different states and it’s capital of United States were posted on dining tables as their names. It was a cool concept. We were escorted to our seats, which by the way is a comfortable couch. Having that cool and comfortable ambience, suddenly I felt the baby back ribs craving. Your order of bourbon-style ribs with two side dishes of your own choice, I chose mashed potatoes and corn. Their version of baby back ribs is kinda sweet to my taste, I noticed a small part of lean meat for me to indulge more of the bones of the ribs itself, while the mashed potatoes are really yummy! It was creamy though I have noticed chunks of potatoes rather than purely mashed it’s still delicious. You can choose sizes between petite P495.00 or grande P795.00. I give this a rating of 3/5.

bourbon-style ribs with mashed potatoes
My choice of pasta then was Classic Spaghetti Carbonara. Their version of carbonara is just ordinary, cream based pasta with their special herbs, crunchy bacon and parmesan cheese. The taste was alright, and expected for a typical cream based dish. I give this 4/5 rating.

Tokyo-tokyo
Posted on June 7th, 2009 2 comments
Japanese food are one of my favorites. Cooked japanese food that is. This time lets try Tokyo-tokyo. For me, I can classify tokyo tokyo as semi fastfood and semi restaurant. Fastfood maybe because of the way you order the food as well as the price when compared to huge japanese restaurants, and restaurant for the quality of the food they offer. Tokyo tokyo is famous for their eat all you rice promo, as long as you can still take it, the rice will keep on coming.

tonkatsu
One of the all time favorites of tokyo tokyo is the tonkatsu. The tonkatsu is a breaded deep fried porkchop served with rice and stir fried vegetables. This dish is a bit greasy but is really yummy and crispy. I’m sure kids of all ages will love it, but not recommended for elderly people. The serving size of the porkchop is just average for its price.

beef teriyaki
Another one of my favorites at tokyo tokyo is the beef teriyaki. The beef is sliced very thinly and is cooked just right. Sprinkled with sesame seed. The only downside of this dish is that sometimes the served beef is more of the fatty side. But if you will be considering the taste, i’ll give it 5/5. You will keep asking for more rice. This is also served with rice and stir fried vegetables. Serving size is also average for its price.
If you would like to try this dish or other tokyo tokyo dish, you can avail for the sumo meal. The sumo meal is a package good for 2 people. It also includes 2 red ice tea, which can save you a few bucks.

chicken ninja wraps
Another best seller of tokyo tokyo is the Ninja Wraps. It comes in chicken or beef teriyaki. The ninja wrap is composed of Pita bread, chicken or beef pieces, teriyaki sauce and cabbage slices, it is wrapped like shawarma, this usually takes 15 minutes waiting time to prepare, but once this is served, it is worth the wait.
- red iced tea

And part of every good meal is an ice cold drink. At tokyo tokyo, you will surely love the taste of the Red Iced Tea. Taste the best when served very cold. I just hope that they will offer this bottomless in the future.
Overall I give tokyo tokyo a 4/5 for ambiance. 4/5 for food taste. and 5/5 for the price.

Century Seafood Restaurant
Posted on June 3rd, 2009 2 commentsAre you looking for a spacious restaurant for your wedding reception? or probably a good restaurant for birthday parties or your child’s christening or baptism. Check out Century Seafood Restaurant.
Century Seafood Restaurant offers a wide variety of chinese food for your taste bud. Not just seafood as the name states. But basically all types of chinese food.
Century seafood restaurant is part of Century Park Hotel which is owned by Mr. Lucio Tan.
The restaurant has 2 huge function spaces and a couple of small function rooms for smaller events. If the 2 huge function rooms will not be enough for you, you can avail of the Century hotel function room which has a bigger space and add a few percentage on the table expense.
One good thing about century seafood is its hotel ambiance. Carpeted floors, high ceiling and a clean and cold environment. Not to mention a free parking space across the street exclusive for century visitors.
For those that are not familiar with chinese restaurant, usually the tables are round with a capacity of 12 people on each table. With a lazy susan at the center to turn the food around.
Now, lets check some of the food they have, the taste and how they present it.

cold cuts
For every 12 seater chinese restaurant round table package, the food usually starts with chinese cold cuts. This dish gives you a good introduction of the meal you are about to take. It includes century egg, pork asado, peking duck and seaweed at the center. This is one of my favorites, its best eaten with chili oil and or ginger sauce.

wintermelon soup
Dining at a chinese restaurant is not complete without a serving of soup. They have a variety of soup to choose from. This is the wintermelon soup. It has mushroom, winter melon and chicken pieces in it. You can also try hot and sour soup, Fish Lip soup or Sharks Fin soup.

garlic shrimp
This is the garlic shrimp. The shrimps are cut vertically and cooked very well, topped with garlic and onion soy sauce.

scallops with broccolli
These are huge scallops with brocolli, the scallops are very soft while the broccolli cooked crunchy.

birthday noodles
This dish is the Birthday Noodle. Birthday noodles are usually served the last. It is to fill up the remaining empty spaces in your stomach to make sure you leave well stuffed. This dish is very tasty. There are different types of birthday noodle. You can also try Misua birthday noodle.
Some good dishes in century (not in the picture) are steamed lapu-lapu. Fried Salt and Pepper Crab and seafood/salad roll.
For dessert, you can go for ginataan, mango sago or sticky peanut ball.
As for the price, it is somewhere between P8,000-P12,000 for a table of 12 seaters. Depending on the dish you order. They also have food package per table and you can choose to change the dishes included in the package.
Overall, I give the ambiance 4/5, food taste 4/5 and presentation 4/5.
Century Seafood Restaurant Location :
G/F Century Park Hotel, 599 P. Ocampo St. 1004 Malate, Manila. Philippines

Cajun
Posted on June 2nd, 2009 7 commentsCajun, the name itself sounds like food served here are all hot and spicy. Ah-ah you got it wrong! Cajun is a family restaurant wherein they served kid-friendly dishes, and good for a family feast regardless what occasion it may be. The newly renovated ambiance of the restaurant is cozy with an orange-light setting. The interior of the place is cozy enough, not to mention that they have a generous number of couch for you to relax at while dining. Upon entering the restaurant, we were courteously greeted by the manager and the waiters. Just like any western style restaurant, they serve fries, onion rings, chicken fingers and the likes for appetizers. They also serve barbecue ribs and burgers for main dish.

full house sampler
Full House Sampler consist of onion sesame rings, stuffed cheese logs, black pepper calamari and chicken tenders served with dips of creamy mustard sauce, marinara sauce and espresso sauce. If you’re ready to devour a deep fried sampler this is it for you, I was ecstatic with their famous onion sesame rings which is typical for me, but their stuffed cheese logs were delectable it was cheesy and gooey, their version of calamari was seasoned well but quite hard for us to chew while their chicken tenders was perfect! You’ll never go wrong with a sampler as your appetizer, you’ll get to taste all different variation at the price of P340.00. A rating of 3/5 for this dish.

creole chicken spaghetti - single serving

creole chicken spaghetti-family serving
We ordered Creole Chicken Spaghetti, according to the cajun staff this is the best seller among the pasta they serve. Its a creamy white sauce pasta with chicken pieces, onions, bell pepper tomatoes and cheese. No, it does not taste like the average carbonara, the creole chicken spaghetti is above the average white sauce pasta. Indeed this is a very good pasta dish. A single order of this can bloat you easily. For the price of P185.00 for a regular serving and P350.00 for family serving. I give it 5/5 for taste and 4/5 for presentation.

tony's classic burger
Next we had a Tony’s classic burger. Its a double patty burger with lettuce serve with french fries. The burger patty itself was a little dry but the fries was really tasty and crispy. This would have been better if the patty was a little moist and probably served with cheese in it. For the price of P195.00 for a half-pound burger patty and P245.00 for a pound of beef patty. I give this 3/5 for taste and 4/5 for presentation.

supreme espresso ribs
Supreme Espresso Ribs with baked mash potatoes and mojos, their version of mojos was to use sweet potatoes, a different variation of using rootcrops. The ribs itself was juicy and tender and it was tasty alright but wasn’t able to taste the espresso that we were expecting from this dish but was satisfying! At the price of P310.00. A rating of 4/5 for this dish.
One other dish not in the picture that I can recommend is the Mustard Peppered Chicken. The mustard peppered chicken is one piece boneless chicken with mustard pepper sauce served with 2 sidings, 2 choices from saffron rice, french fries, hash brown, corn and carrot or corn in a cub. Another option is you can choose Pork Chop instead of chicken. This dish for me is a 5/5 for taste and 4/5 for presentation and 3/5 for the serving size. The Mustard peppered sauce is a creamy yellowish sauce with crushed pepper in it. Truly a very good tasting dish. at the price of P210.

Strawberry Iced Tea

green iced tea

Tony's special blend iced tea
Every good tasting dish needs to be complemented by a refreshing drink. Cajun offers bottomless iced tea. Either you choose the red one (strawberry) or the green one both iced tea is equally refreshing. At the price of P75.00 you can have it bottomless already. You can choose to have the green iced tea first then have the red iced tea later so you can check which one taste better for you. Or you may opt to try their Tony’s special blend iced tea,at the price of P75.00 per glass or P110.00 for a pitcher, sweeter than their strawberry iced tea, their secret ingredient for this beverage is vanilla…it is also refreshing and an out of the blue beverage that is worth to try!
Overall I give Cajun Family Restaurant a 4/5 my personal suggestion is for them to improve the serving size while maintaining the price. Budget for 2 people is around P300-P450.
